EDUCATION

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, GPA: 3.54 / 4.00, May 2016

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia

Master’s Thesis: “High-Speed Imaging of Water Droplet Impacting a Super Cold Surface”

Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering (Astronautical Track), GPA 3.68 / 4.00, May 2014

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester, MA

Graduated with High Distinction

ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE

Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Nexus, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Aug 2016 – July 2017

Conducted system integration and testing, completed 100-hour inspections, troubleshot technical problems, and performed scheduled maintenance and repairs on Cessna 72P Skyhawk and Cherokee (light) airplanes.

Assistant Director for Aerospace Programs, Aeroventure Institute, Worcester, MA, June – Aug 2013

Assisted in planning aviation related programs for students and teachers. Conducted events logistics, marketing, and participant recruitment. Acted as liaison and maintained open lines of communication among management, program partners, and guest speakers.

PROJECTS

High-Speed Imaging of Water Droplet Impacting a Super Cold Surface, KAUST, May 2015 – Aug 2016

Studied the impact, spread, and solidification of water droplets onto cold spheres to propose new anti-icing and deicing methods for aircrafts. Performed analyses for different sphere diameters and surface temperatures. Conducted literature review, and examined the cracking of the formed ice layer.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Analyses, KAUST, Jan – May 2015

Run PIV analyses on a water jet and on a water tank containing Rhodamine particles, using methods that involved a continuous wave laser, colored LED lights, and a pulsed laser.

Optical Emission Study of a Pulsed Plasma Thruster, WPI, Aug 2013 – May 2014

Investigated the visible spectra of emitted radiation during the operation of Aerojet’s laboratory model Pulsed Plasma Thruster (PPT). Conducted requirements development, literature review, repaired NASA’s vacuum chamber leak, built a test stand and shield, and installed a pulsing and high energy capacitor circuit to the vacuum chamber.

Phobos and Mars Observation Spacecraft, WPI, Jan – Mar 2014

Preformed trade studied on the preliminary design of a high-resolution imaging mission to Mars’ moon, Phobos. Analyzed the propulsion, power, structure, launch vehicle selection, and attitude determination and control spacecraft subsystems.

Reflexed Airfoil, WPI, Feb 2014

Designed and 3D printed a reflexed airfoil that met design specification for a micro-air vehicle. Tested the reflexed airfoil model in the wind tunnel and compared its performance to the XFLR5 theoretical data.

Pressure Distribution on a NACA 4412 Airfoil, WPI, Mar 2014

Determined and compared theoretical and experimental lift and quarter-chord moment coefficients of a NACA 4412 airfoil at different angles of attack. Obtained the theoretical values using XFLR5, and collected the wind tunnel measurements using a model NACA 4412 airfoil and a manometer.

Skills

Software: LabVIEW, SolidWorks, Mathematica, MATLAB, Maple, and Particle Image Velocimetry

Tri-Lingual Languages: Arabic (Fluent), French (Fluent), and Spanish (Intermediate)

AWARDS

Innovative, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Certificate, KAUST, Jan 2015

Dean’s List, WPI, Jan 2012 – May 2014

Aerospace Engineering Program MQP Award, WPI, Apr 2014

Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship, Waltham, MA, Apr 2013
